This module has been my favorite so far. As an after-school educator, I have the distinct challenge of working with students who are often, and on the whole, unmotivated to learn. They've had a whole day of sitting and learning, and then I show up, and I expect a lot of the same. It is my goal as an educator to break past the apathy and the boredom, engage my students, and help them apply the lessons I teach them to greater lessons they encounter themselves.
Learning how to learn is so important in today's information age. And I believe this is true for students, and doubly true for educators. If we cannot adapt, we cannot expect our students to adapt. In terms of my own learning, I think my greatest takeaway this module is the idea that top-down-knowledge is just about as effective as trickle-down wealth...not very. We are all experts in something, and sharing this knowledge with our students, and allowing them to collaborate, is more effective than sitting and listening yet again. Not to say that listening is important...it's more important know then ever!
This week I had the opportunity to do the following daily creates:
And I created a story using Twine as my challenge...and that it was! Still a little shaky with the technology, but I'm trying to stretch my digital muscles!
