Module 8 Conclusions, or "WE MADE IT!"

We made it everybody! Here we are!

For the first two questions, I did a storyboard, which is a new digital technology I haven't used yet this semester. I answered the following questions in it:

Define digital storytelling in your own words. Explain it.

Answer: How does digital storytelling influence learning?

Enjoy! I'll catch you after!

Or down below....but it is very small!

Now on to the rest of my reflection!

I've collected my Greatest Hits below, and have given descriptions for each. You can find my answer to the course questions near the bottom. See you there!

Best of Audio:

I really dislike the sound of my own voice, so this was a stretch for me! Enjoyed making my 30 Second Story - "A Small Voice" in the end.

Best of Graphics/Image Editing:

I loved the concept of this prompt, and I loved the edit I was able to achieve with a little bit of editing software!

Best of Video/Animation:

Loved the opportunity to do some mini-animation with Amber's photo! I also did two remixes (because I didn't want someone to lose the opportunity to be remixed!) so I ended up producing two. Yay for over-achievement!

Best of Social:

In my line of work, we got a Bearded Dragon named Clementine to promote our social media presence and in some of our programming. Glad to have the opportunity to share Clem's adventures with the class! Here she was on Diwali:

Best of Web:

I was the MC for the Dialogue on Killing Kennedy, and it was great producing questions and leading a Dialogue with some cool people! It was also neat to delve into the transmedia elements of the site itself.

Favorite Dialogue:

Loved this dialogue because it was my last (never thought I'd get to the point where I'd miss doing them!) and it was also really, really heartfelt. My dialogue partner had watched the video before, and she had such great insight into it. It was also just the two of us, so we were able to really discuss the content intimately. It was great!

I also completed one final Daily Create for the road...and gave blood for the first time!

Here also is my Final Challenge:

What learning theory or concept from this course moved you most?

In relation to my favorite dialogue above, the concept that moved me most in this course was the idea of having a "single story", and how damaging this can be to people's concepts of each other. Learning how to be fair and equitable to others is a skill that must be learned, and I think digital storytelling has the opportunity to make a great impact in this regard. I work hard to make sure my students understand this from a young age.

What was your single greatest take-away from this course?

Not a single takeaway, but the number of tools I have been introduced to in this course, (Twine, storyboarding, transmedia, remixing, etc.) will make developing course work and curriculum for my kiddos so much better in the future! I can't wait to use the technologies I've gleaned to make relevant, important lessons for my kids to use. I can't wait!

If you could redesign this course, what would you do differently?

I wouldn't change the greatest part of the course. For the most part, I found it all engaging, challenging, and really, really relevant to my learning as an educator and as a student. I especially appreciated being broken into smaller Hypothes.is groups, as I've struggled with getting lost in a larger online class before. Perhaps the grading system could use a revamp. I sometimes struggled with giving myself a score, simply because of how I was feeling at the moment. Not ideal, to be sure.
